Red Rising

Whoa…..

Red Rising has been a series that has been raved about and well known all over the book community.
So why did it take me so long to read?
Sci-fi…. not my normal thing.
Romance… I know its a lacking component.
Nevertheless, I knew it was time to give RR a go.

Red Rising starts off strong and heartbreaking right out of the gate. With Darrow losing the only love and happiness he’s ever known and being thrown into a part of his world he didn’t know even existed…. its his turn to have his revenge on the colors that have walked on his people for so long… and who took away his happiness.

RR is brutal with a bit of nostalgia of the hunger games and the dystopian feel many love to read in series.
You will cry.
You will get mad.
You may just cry some more.
But in the end you will give a big ole’ fist bump to the sky for Darrow as breaks and is mended as a new man in an impossible situation. A man fueled by anger but also willing to recognize the good even in the corrupt.

And no… this is not romance at all… however the writing is so good I didn’t miss it. Also this whole book is a love story and a tribute that I found so beautiful even when I wasn’t getting the “warm and fuzzies.”
Darrow’s journey from start to finish is unforgettable.

I cannot wait to continue this series and learn more about some of my favorite characters ( Mustang girl I’m looking at you!)

– loved hunger games or divergent
– something new and different
-sci-fi
-dystopian
-mythology
– brutality of the vikings with a bunch of space suits
-BA & unforgettable characters
-books about loyalty and friendship

What was missing:
honestly… nothing… I think there were a few points I was a bit confused but by the end it tied up so well. I would highly recommend starting this series with a group or a friend so you can chat!

I’ve reached the end of the Lux series and I think I could cry. 💔

From the Beginning reading Obsidian I knew I would be hooked on this series. JLA knows how to write a story in any setting and make you believe it. She also knows how to write a heart stopping book boyfriend. Daemon Black is alpha, snarky, handsome, protection and STRONG. If you are needing a something to get hooked on, this series is for you.

Opposition was a great finale to a series. It tied everything together with Daedalus, Origins, Luxen, and Arums.

It gave me all I craved from a relationship with Kat and Daemon.

But man I would looooooooove some more Archer and Dee!!!!!

Not a fan of sci-fi? Ya neither was I…. but now I’m wondering when is too soon to reread this series… oh I’ll be back… but until then I cannot wait to read the spin off with Luc’s POV.

What I loved:
-every sweet moment with k&d
-Archer and the bromance he creates with Daemon
-the fight scenes…WOW!!! my heart was racing!
-the ending 😘

Read if you love:
-an addictive romance in a different setting
-moments that keep you on your toes
-family
-a series you’ll want everyone to read with you

Can’t Stop- Origin- Lux Series #4

I want a decade’s worth of hours, so many that I can’t add them up.”

With the epic ending of Opal, we were left with Katy held captive by Daedalus. now Daemon is willing to do anything to get to Kat, including turn himself in.

With experiments, torture and finding the truth behind what Daedalus to up to, the war hidden behind the walls of Area 51 is much bigger than the world is ready for… there are supernaturals that are stronger and more terrifying than any Luxen and Arum, and we call them Origins.

The offspring to a Luxen and hybrid who are the most willing and powerful, but they are being created as weapons.

Although this book was full of action, adventure and heart pounding moments it also was full of love, hope, and romance.

THIS book is what I was craving for in the series.
Daemon= ALPHAHOLE you just added to your book boyfriend list

If you asked me in the beginning of this series I would have said “Aliens? weird… pass..”

Now… I’m wondering where I can get my own Lite Brite man.

Another Day, Same Alien- Opal Review (lux series book 3)

Stopping at the first row, I bent over and tossed my hair over my head, shaking it out. “This reminds me of a Whitesnake video,” Daemon said. “Huh?” I ran my hands through my hair, hoping for the sexy look and not the “I had my head out of the car” look. “If you start climbing on car hoods, I think I might marry you.”

Let me start this review by saying I typically am in bed overnight by 10:30 and I was up to 1:30 am. 12:30 was what I read till because I couldn’t stop… and the extra hour was for staring at the ceiling wondering what just happened in the last 10 pages of Opal…..

Daemon and Katy are in a good place in their relationship, and Daemon is adamant on having as many normal moments as possible. Dates, dinners, proms, and stolen kisses.

But nothing in their lives will ever be normal… not for an alien and an hybrid.
Not when they have to break into Mount Weather and save Beth from the inflictions of the Daedalus, and in order to do that they will have to train and come in contact with the one weapon that can weaken them, Onyx.

Opal was by far my favorite out of the series so far!

What I loved:
– The evolution of Deamon and Katy
-Katy’s strength
-the ACTION!
-prom.. SWOON! I feel robbed….
-the humor… I smiled most of the book

What I didn’t love:
-That it was 1:30 am and I couldn’t start Origin
-That somehow… 3 books in…. we still haven’t learned to trust our “gut feeling”, or creepy things people do that are a GIANT WARNING FLAG.
Listen carefully… the creepy dude is ALWAYS as creepy as you think.

Another day of throwing away responsibilities to continue this addicting series! JLA writes epic stories with characters you can’t help but be consumed by.

Pacing- easy read! I didn’t struggle with this one.
Romance- (sigh) Young Love❤️
Favorite part- anything with Daemon’s sense of humor
Steam- “Oh…… OHHHHHHH!!!! Wine coolers, blankets and a romantic fire by the lake? I feel cheated…”

Help I’ve been Abducted by Aliens! Onyx- Lux Series #2

“Do you know what I’ve been thinking about all day?” With him, it was anyone’s guess. “No.” His lips brushed the skin of my cheek. “Finding out if you look as good in striped socks as you do in reindeer ones.” “I do.” His head slanted and his smile was lazy, arrogant. Predatory. “I knew it.”

I’ve never wanted to to the Cardi B “Okrrrrrrr” more in my life. I see you JLA!

Onyx is the second book to the Lux series… so if you haven’t read it please do! This series is easily a guilty pleasure, break in the monotony of average reading and diving into a sci-fi world I didn’t know I even wanted to be a part of.

Onyx follows more of Kat, Daemon and their families in their small town of West Virginia where things are getting even more… supernatural.

More men in black are showing up…
And is someone NEW trying to vie for Katy’s heart? *Cue jealous raging teenage boy.*

Things I loved about book 2:
-More powers, more possibilities
-More flirting and kissing
-Daemon’s sarcasm is (chef’s kiss) him not getting Blake’s (or is it Bart) name right had me LOLing
-More banter and Witt I lived for in Obsidian
-A little more story build and adventure
-creepy new characters
-a mediocre love triangle that brought to life the feelings between two love interests, bc every teenager in YA fiction is in denial of:
“oh he said he likes me? He doesn’t mean it so I’m going to do everything in my power to ignore what he’s saying”
NEWS FLASH Girls IRL don’t do that 😂. They are more apt to jump to conclusions than deny them.

Moving On.

What I didn’t love:
-I missed Dee in this one
-The push and pull of Katy drove me INSANE at times… I know I know we are young and what not… again… I just wanted to shake her

Now that I have torn through 2 books in 48 hours… neglected all of my PLANNED reads and ARCs for November… WHY STOP NOW?

Pacing– this was a long one…. there were moments I felt I wanted to skim through but overall steady
Romance– in denial teenagers with way too many hormones
Steam level– “Did someone really use the phrase dry hump?”
